New copper z flashing was used to separate new stucco with old .i don't care what you do you can never get a good seal with old style stucco installations when a drainge screen has not been installed so best to separate which we did above windows and when it's painted it will not be as noticeable either flashing or tear out the whole three story wall to be able to seal
