• Backstage, Inc., is Washington's only theatrical superstore, delivering the theatrical needs to the DC community for over 20 years, with extensive experience in costuming for all types of events. Now, on Capital Hill on the corner of 8th and G Street in Southeast -- two blocks south of the Eastern Market Metro Station, located near the historic Marine Barracks Row, we are open from 11 am to 7 pm, Monday through Saturday and closed on Sundays. Backstage has an expansive costume rental department and packaged costumes for sale from Samson and Delilah to Sonny and Cher as well as fantasy characters from television and film. In the Nations Capital, we are the only store that deals exclusively in scripts, musicals, screenplays, and books related to performance and production, as well as magazines like American Theatre, Scenario, Ross Reports and accent tapes. We have a large selection of vocal sheet music along with gift items such as posters, t-shirts, coffee mugs and key chains from some of Broadways greatest shows as well as life size cardboard stand-ups of your favorite celebrities and characters. As an authorized dealer of Ben Nye brand professional make-up, we have everything one might need to create any kind of effect including latex appliances such as noses and chins and prepared beards and mustaches along with our many styles of wigs in natural shades and bright colors. Accessories are an essential part to any costume and we have a wide array of hats for sale as well as items such as pitchforks, pirate eye patches, prisoner ball and chain sets, feather boas, long gloves, sequined tiaras and much, much more. Our masks range from political figures and movie star caricatures to simple bandit, but we also have beautiful hand-made Mardi Gras-style masquerade masks and feathered headdresses. We now carry children's packaged costumes for sale along with dancewear (such as tights and leotards) and dance shoes for men, women and children by Capezio. As always if we don't have something in stock, we can order it for you. Mail order is available. Custom work is also available; we design or use your designs to create mascot-style character costumes and employee uniforms (with company logos) for major companies and organizations as well as competition dance-sport and figure skating events.
