We have been waiting for her first day for some time as she will be the head physician at our practice. Dr. Leipzig hand chose Kimi as she shared the same values and vision as himself.   The Brownwood Ear, Nose and Throat Surgical Clinic opened in 1990 as the primary ENT practice for
  Dr. Bruce Leipzig. The scope of practice included all aspects of ear, nose and throat disease from the common cold to major cancers of the head and neck region. It consisted of Dr. Leipzig, a full- time audiologist who specialized in the diagnosis and evaluation of ear and hearing diseases, a surgical nurse and an office nurse, and two persons in the office.
  Our goal was to give excellence of care, above and beyond the expected for our patients.
  Within two years it was obvious that to give the most comprehensive and up-to-date care of nasal and sinus disease, we would have to open a full time allergy practice as an addition to our services. A nurse and two technicians were hired and trained, became members of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy, and commenced evaluation and treatment of allergic diseases. When necessary, testing for allergy was performed and, in numerous instances approaching 50% of these patients, surgery was lessened or made unnecessary because of this unique service in Brownwood. Both adults and children were treated.
  After almost twenty years in Brownwood, doing ENT medicine in the office and surgery in the hospital and outpatient surgery center along with our allergy service, Dr. Leipzig was diagnosed with a benign illness which affected his sight. Major surgery was no longer possible, and he therefore ceased his surgical practice to concentrate on office ENT and Allergy only. As his sight worsened, it became evident that for the sake of our patients, Dr. Leipzig must retire from practice. A Nurse Practitioner was trained to maintain the office practice under the supervision of two MD’s associated with Brownwood Specialty Clinic. Drs. Butka and Cox both worked in the clinic and supervised our nurses.
  Dr. Leipzig joined them in the search for a competent and compassionate, trained and boarded doctor in the practice of Ear, Nose and Throat diseases with Allergy. That person, Dr. Kimi Dart, has agreed to come to Brownwood and practice in the style that Dr. Leipzig had created in the clinic for the past twenty plus years. She will begin in the summer of 2013.
  In the meanwhile, Krissy Posey, CNP is working full time in the clinic under the supervision of Drs. Butka and Cox to provide quality and continuity for our patients. Six other nurses, technicians, and office specialists assist her, and our audiologist is available at all times for ear and hearing evaluations.
