About Us

  • Charles P. Capito, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist who welcomes patients of all ages at three convenient office locations: Weirton, West Virginia, Steubenville, Ohio, and Oakdale, Pennsylvania. Dr. Capito treats the full range of musculoskeletal problems, from carpal tunnel syndrome and rotator cuff repair to ACL injuries and complex fractures. He also has extensive experience performing joint replacement surgery. Dr. Capito brings unparalleled sports medicine expertise to the region. He has worked with the doctors serving the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Colts. He was also a US Olympic Sports Doctor and completed extensive fellowship training in sports medicine. Born and raised in Weirton, Dr. Capito received his medical degree from the West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown, then went on to complete his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Johns Hopkins affiliated program in Baltimore. During his residency, he worked with physicians and athletes of the Baltimore Colts and Orioles. He also helped develop the largest sports medicine clinic in Maryland. Dr. Capito spent six months of fellowship training in sports medicine at the North Sydney Sports Medicine Institute in Australia, then finished another six months at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. During his training, he developed expertise in sports medicine by treating high school, college, and professional athletes. He also completed fellowship training in total joint replacement, spending six months at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and six months at the University of Pittsburgh. After finishing his fellowship training, Dr. Capito devoted extra time to studying with world-renowned shoulder and knee surgeons in London Ontario, Canada, and Rochester, New York. From there, he continued to expand his experience and training by working with the doctors and players of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dr. Capito served as president of the West Virginia Orthopedic Association for two years and has sponsored several conferences on sports medicine at The Greenbrier in Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, where he hosted international and national guest lecturers on knee and shoulder arthroscopy. He also works as an orthopedic team consultant with the Steubenville Big Red and Steubenville Catholic Central teams, as well as Weir High, Madonna, Brook, and Oak Glenn High schools.
