About Us

  • I provide private lessons for woodwind and brass instruments including flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and trombone for beginning, intermediate and advanced students of all ages. My name is Dale Zink and I am currently the Instrumental Director at Hope Lutheran Church in Warren, Michigan and have been teaching private lessons for over 30 years. The beginning student will learn how to assemble/disassemble and care for their instrument, beginning embouchure (how to correctly place the mouth on the mouthpiece), how to get the instrument to produce notes and the correct pitches, fingerings, how to read music at the beginner level (this includes notes and rests from whole to sixteenths, clefs, times, keys, timing, counting, accidentals, ties, tempos, articulations and their markings and more) and how to play beginning songs. The intermediate student will learn how to improve and maintain their embouchure (how to correctly place the mouth on the mouthpiece), more advanced fingerings, how to control their instrument better, proper breathing, better articulation and expression, more advanced rhythms, how to play with one or more people and groups, how to play in tune, major and minor keys, chords, beginning embellishments (grace notes and trills), intervals, beginning musical styles and more. The advanced student will learn how to improve and maintain their embouchure, more advanced fingerings, how to control their instrument better, proper breathing, better articulation and expression, more advanced rhythms, how to play in tune, how to play musically, scales(major, minor, blues, modal, etc.), chords, advanced embellishments (grace notes, trills, mordents, grupettos, etc.), musical styles, improvisation and more. Single lessons and limited duration lessons (for contest or performance prep or instrument changing) as well as the regular weekly half hour lessons can be either at my location or yours.
