Dr. Hallett is the first, and most experienced, Board-Certified Allergist in Austin to offer Oral Allergy Drop treatments. Oral allergy drops have been used in Europe for over 25 years and today they account for over 50% of the immunotherapy that is done there. As a Fellowship-Trained and Board-Certified Allergist, Dr. Hallett has been utilizing the more effective high-dose, European protocol Oral Allergy Drops as an option for his immunotherapy patients since 2009. Oral Allergy Drops have been proven to provide a safe, effective and convenient alternative to allergy injections. Oral Allergy Drop patients can reach their maintenance dose in 1 month. Oral Allergy Drops are taken daily and can be self-administered at home. Oral Allergy Drops ARE NOT covered by any insurance plans or Medicare at this time. However, some patients may be able to use their Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account dollars to help cover the cost. Subcutaneous Immunotherapy - (Allergy Injections) Allergy Injections are the most widely used type of immunotherapy treatment utilized in the United States. Allergy Injection patients usually begin with a low dose/low concentration of allergy extract and build up to their ?maintenance? dose over a period of months. Patients then continue with weekly or every other week injections. Allergy Injections must be administered in a physician's office. Allergy Injections and Allergy Extract ARE covered by most insurance plans. Venom Immunotherapy Venom Allergy Injections are available for Fire Ant, Wasp, Honey Bee, Yellow Jacket, White-Faced and Yellow Hornet. Venom Allergy Injections must be administered in a physician's office Venom Allergy Injections and Venom Extracts ARE covered by most insurance plans.
