• Blepharitis is a non-contagious inflammation of your eyelids. It can affect people of all ages. Blepharitis usually impacts both eyes at the same time and occurs at the eyelash line. While this medical condition is often treatable, in one of its forms, it’s considered chronic and can be difficult to treat. Eyelashes are not just a cosmetic feature on your face. They play an important role in the health of your eye. The improper application and use of cosmetics can cause eyelash problems — as a matter of fact, it’s one of the most common means of infection. But other, serious conditions also can lead to infected eyelashes. Strabismus is a condition in which your two eyes are not aligned and point in different directions. One eye may be focused straight ahead, while the other eye is looking up, down, left or right. The maladjusted eye may maintain one position, or it can drift. It’s also possible for the affected eyes to switch positions; the stable eye might suddenly become the roving one and vice versa. Keratoconus is a disorder that occurs when the front part of your eye, round and smooth when healthy, becomes thin and abnormal, taking on more of a conical shape. Since the round shape of your eye is meant to help focus light, keratoconus forces the light to be angled improperly through the cornea and onto the retina. Diabetic eye disease — known by its medical term, diabetic retinopathy — is an eye issue that specifically affects people who have diabetes. If you are diabetic, you should receive specialized screenings on a regular basis. These tests are called diabetic eye exams.
