Why videocassettes need to be converted:
Although video formats - Beta, VHS, 8-millimeter Video, and the like - are the same throughout the world, cassettes bought or recorded in one country may not play in another, because different countries use different broadcast standards - NTSC, PAL, and SECAM. If you have a cassette recorded in one broadcast standard and want to play the program it contains on a VCR that plays a different broadcast standard, you must make a converted copy of your cassette.
