Jonathan graduated from Francis Marion University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Political Science. During college, Jonathan worked part-time for the Florence Public Library, Florence School District One, and the Pee Dee Coalition Against Sexual & Domestic Violence. While at FMU, Jonathan was inducted into the Pi Gama Mu and Psi Chi honor societies. He earned his J.D. degree from Charleston School of Law, where he was thrice named to the Dean's List and was one of six of his classmates recognized by faculty as an exemplar of public service. After law school, Jonathan worked with former federal prosecutor, Rose Mary Parham, before opening his own practice in Florence. Jonathan Edwards is a native of Florence, South Carolina, where he currently resides with his wife, Lee Ann, and their three dogs. He is also a member of the Greater Florence Area Ministry Alliance.
