• Lazy J Bedding is a family owned business that ultimately started at the urging of some of our customers who were purchasing their hay and straw bales from our farm in the beautiful Idaho/Washington Palouse Region. Several of our customers had found that if they chopped their straw into small pieces it was much more absorbent, easier to clean with less bedding to replace each time and they also enjoyed the benefits of how fast straw decomposes compared to the wood shavings that they had been using. Each of them desired to have a very clean wheat straw that was chopped, compressed and packaged into bags. As we started researching the viability of producing such a product, we found that the market was much more broad and diverse than we had originally thought. Not only was there a market for horse owners but also people with chickens, goats, dogs, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, alpacas, etc. We found that customers also wanted to use a product that is safe for their family and pets and is environmentally friendly. Our wheat straw is certainly tops in these categories. Wheat is one of the main crops grown in the Palouse Region and it is a readily renewable resource every year. Customers also liked the idea of a product that could be loaded into their SUV or car without leaving a mess and was also weatherproof and easy to stack. We are excited to say that our business is growing steadily as new customers discover the benefits and convenience of using our chopped straw product for the bedding needs of their animals.
