About Us

  • Our current centralized fossil fuel based energy system increasingly endangers humans and the ecological, social, and economic systems upon which we depend. The health of our communities depends on a rapid transition to sustainable energy generation and use. We cannot wait for our elected officials to take action. Instead, we can start, here and now in our own community, to build a resilient, distributed energy network. Mission Northwest SEED works to establish a clean, diverse, and affordable Northwest energy system based on efficient use of renewable resources, with maximum local control and ownership of energy assets. Vision We envision a clean, diverse, and affordable energy future for the Northwest. Through our efforts, successful on-the-ground, community-based projects will stimulate local economic development, create jobs, and enhance security, creating widespread popular support for and investment in a sustainable energy system. In becoming self-reliant through energy efficiency and distributed local energy resources, the region will serve as a model for the nation and other countries. Strategies Assess energy efficiency and renewable energy resources Research innovative energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions Reduce and eliminate barriers to local ownership of renewable energy generation projects Inform communities about clean energy solutions, through publications, websites, direct organizing, and technical assistance Demonstrate replicable community-based clean energy projects Increase community resiliency through clean energy initiatives
