• In the past there was competition within the mainframe arena. These included Burroughs, UNIVAC, NCR, Control Data, Honeywell, General Electric, RCA and other(s). Like the dinosaur, these have all fallen by the wayside, reducing competition. IBM is one of the few mainframe providers left. Normally, when competition is reduced, the remainder of the companies gobble up the market, increasing costs to the customer. Enter the Micro Focus Enterprise alternative. It has the capability of running and adapting Mainframe systems to a PC/LAN environment with little need to make modifications to the original mainframe software. It may be run either in an ASCII or EBCDIC environment. The EBCDIC environment is the best alternative, as coding modifications are very limited. Micro Focus Enterprise supports COBOL, COBOL II, CICS/VSAM, IMS DB/DC, DB2 and Oracle configured systems. Micro Focus Enterprise will run mainframe JCL with little or no modification.
