• The first upward-lifting garage door was invented by C.G. Johnson in 1921; this sparked the beginning of the Overhead Door Co. The electric door opener was then invented shortly after in 1926. Today, the company he began is still recognized as the leading single source manufacturer of integrated door and operator systems for commercial, industrial and residential applications. Locally, Don Johnson began the Overhead Door Company of Burlington, Inc. out of his home in 1948 and is now in it's third generation. Overhead Door of Burlington has grown to become one of the largest installers of overhead garage doors and electric operators in Vermont, New Hampshire and one of the largest firms of its kind in Northern New England, consistently winning national awards and recognition.
