About Us

  • In the summer of 2012, a slightly balding, middle-aged man awoke from a dream. In his slumber he dreamed of opening a brewery. Once his wife awoke from her peaceful sleep (okay, he might have awakened her), he explained that he had this dream of making great beer. He dreamed of a Brewery that would offer a fun location and "Damn Good Beer"! That very day he set his mind on opening the best brewery ever! With that thought in mind he purchased a home brewing system. That October he made his first batch of home brew in the yard behind his house. The beer was not only good but Damn Good! So that winter he began building a brewery behind his house. His friends thought he had gone mad, his wife.....well let’s just say she was supportive. Two years later and many beer batches further along they had created a brewery behind their house only to find out that this was not a suitable brewery site. Somewhere in the middle of all that, there was this band that he belonged to. The band was full of headstrong egotistical players (well a couple of them were not). The band was successful on a local scale and played every weekend. When the man chose to not play a particular weekend, some members of the band chose to fire the man. The man having a major role in the creation of the band chose to keep the band name and proceeded to trade-mark the band name. This made the lead guitarist very angry. (I think he actually might have thrown a tantrum.) One or more members of the band then proceeded to slander the man in a most unusual way. They went onto an anonymous public posting called “Craigslist” and utilized their Rants & Raves section. The postings were so grave that they even affected portions of this man’s business. The result was that the man lost his lease for unfounded reasons at the Eastside Marketplace - placing a very happy coffee shop and 4 wonderful people out of work. (Please note that ownership of that mall has now changed hands.) Since this man is very loyal to his employees he was understandably very upset with the outcome. So one night when the slightly balding, middle-aged man was sipping on a quite wonderfully smooth IPA with his beautifully smart and attractive wife (brewers, this is how you get your wife to let you brew beer!) speaking about the terrible post that the old band members had ranted about, they discovered a great idea. “Why not make lemonade out of lemons?” Ha! The more they thought about it, the more they laughed. Yes, they drank more beer and settled on the name of their future enterprise: Rants & Raves Brewery, the home of Damn Good Beer. The next day the man went to work brewing his very first IPA and it was properly named “The bitter Eastside”. Now with a beautiful location behind the house, his wife, who is very determined, decided it was time to open a brewery so that all could enjoy. In March of 2015, they purchased the building located at 306 N. Jackson Street, Moscow, ID. This building, which was previously a water supply company, inspired them to make a local brewery that could serve the public and deliver to Moscow excellent beer and good times. Remodeling of the building started immediately. The first step was to turn the building into the attitude of Rants & Raves. They hired their own company, Independent Home Services, to complete the remodeling project. In three months this building went from being a non-descriptive old block building into what it looks like today. The Rant is the color black and the Rave is the color red. Now with the exterior finished they are turning their attention to the interior of the building. They cannot wait to show you the inside and tell you all about it. Stay tuned, as they plan on opening in October of 2015. Rants & Raves Brewery will provide an excellent quality of beer and fine food! Rants & Raves Brewery is looking forward to serving Moscow, and the Palouse!
