After Vietnam, he was involved in the relocation and treatment of our Indochinese. Currently Tom enjoys his family, Nick, Alex, Debbie, and multiple family pets. A master in falconry and martial artist for over 35 years, he practices Chi Gong for health. Dentistry is not just his job, it's also one of his hobbies. Tom also writes a column for Planet Insights for kids of all ages. An estimated 40% of the US population experience chronic bad breath. Somewhere around 90% of the United States suffers from morning breath. Did you know that malodor is often the symptom of underlying disease? When not caused by local conditions, found in the mouth, medical disorders can be involved. The Halimeter is a scientific instrument which measures volatile sulfur gases present in the oral environment. These gases are the etiology of bad breath and a byproduct of food fueling bacterial metabolism. Perio Temp is a diagnostic device to read elevated temperatures of sulcus readings (gum pockets). This heat is an indicator of bacterial activity, and aids in identification of local causative factors. Intra oral color cameras, along with a thorough discreet patient history, will help treat malodor. Bad breath is not unique. It is treatable. Effective relief and home care will give us all fresher breath. We can recommend the proper form of treatment or medical referral.
