• Paoli, Pennsylvania seemed liked the ideal location to open my practice. There must have been fond memories of the area from my youth. My first real job was busing tables at the Highway Inn (now a Citadel Bank) at the corner of Route 30 and King Street. As a life- long Chester County resident, I realized I could never move too far from my family and childhood home in Westtown. After graduating from Henderson High School in West Chester, I attended Penn State University and graduated with Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Microbiology. I fell down some steps moving furniture out of my college apartment my junior year. By the time I got home, I could barely move and laid on the floor of my parents? home for 2 days muttering 6 words?.?I think it will go away?. When it did not, my father wheeled into the office of a local chiropractor he had seen for his back problems. After two treatments, I was moving like a college student. This introduction to chiropractic care changed my educational plan from bacterial research to a health career as a chiropractor. While primarily serving the needs of the Main Line from Bala Cynwyd to Frazer, Dr. Shields has had the opportunity to treat many international patients. With the large number of corporate headquarters along the Route 252/202 corridor near Valley Forge, visiting executives from Europe, Asia and Africa often show up at his door due to the stress of a long flight. Since Dr. Shields practice has an emphasis on joints and sports related problems involving the spine and the extremities, he has had the chance to treat many athletes participating in local sporting events like bicycling, ice skating and even beach volleyball.
