About Us

  • Dr. Deters was born and raised in the Inland Northwest, and is a proud graduate of Gonzaga Preparatory School. He attended Wheaton College in Illinois and went on to attend the University Of Washington School Of Medicine as part of the WWAMI program. After medical school, he completed a six year urology residency at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He spent the first two years in the general surgery program managing critically ill patients, as well as learning surgical technique from the trauma, vascular, plastics, cardiothoracic, and transplant surgical services. He then completed four years of urology training that included both adult and pediatric patients. Dr. Deters specializes in the treatment of both benign and malignant urologic conditions. As a resident, he spent four years training on the DaVinci Surgical System to augment his previous training in laparoscopic surgery with this advanced robotic technique. He is pleased to offer minimally invasive surgical procedures for the management of kidney, bladder, and prostate cancers. Dr. Deters has treatment and research interests in the management and prevention of kidney stones. He offers laser and shock wave based procedures for most stones, as well as percutaneous management of larger and more complex renal stones. Besides offering a wide spectrum of treatments, Dr. Deters believes that effective patient care starts with patient education and an open discussion with the patient about their condition and their options, this often includes a multidisciplinary approach. Dr. Deters is board certified by the American Board of Urology. He currently holds privileges at Sacred Heart Medical Center, Holy Family Hospital, Deaconess Medical Center, and Valley Hospital. He is pleased to return to Spokane to serve the community. He holds faculty positions at both University of Washington as well as Washington State University, and is involved in designing the curriculum for the new medical school coming to Spokane in 2017.
