About Us

  • We started Vermont Foodies as a portal to all food in Vermont that is organic, natural, GMO-free, chemical-free, non-processed, locally grown and part of the "slow food" movement. We got into this cause for two reasons: First, a member of our family suffers from severe industrial wheat allergies and must maintain a strict gluten-free diet. Second, we got tired of eating tasteless processed food and remembered all the wonderful meals our parents used to make in the 1950s and 1960s. For several years now, we've been fighting the "label wars" and understand very well how difficult it is to eat chemical-free. You'd have to be a biochemist to understand the food labels in America. And that's just wrong. We also wanted to do something positive with our land in Vermont. As former journalists, we saw a way to publicize the good works of small farmers, of dairy, beef and fiber ranchers and of artisans and to make sure those messages reached customers and potential clients via the Web. We saw a way to cut through the clutter and directly connect customers in search of nutritious food with those hardy Vermonters making nutritious food. With this site, you will be able to find what you are looking for when it comes to the most wholesome, "real" food that Vermont has to offer. You'll also be able to see what your neighbors are working on - and what obstacles they are facing from Big Ag. We like to think that we are creating Vermont's own World Wide Web of Food. Ultimately, Vermont Foodies will be a living, organic directory that features locally owned farms, the best in food and recipes, and bios of Vermont farmers and ranchers, restauranteurs and independent brewers, beekeepers and maple syrup makers. We are still in our "soft" launch phase. We hope to seed this site with informative content for a hard launch in the Spring of 2015. So please keep an eye on these seedlings.
