About Us

  • David J. Oberly is a trial attorney whose practice is devoted to civil litigation at the trial and appellate levels in both state and federal courts, with a focus on business and commercial litigation, corporate law, employment and labor law, civil rights and discrimination law, and personal injury and wrongful death litigation. David also has extensive experience and expertise in the areas of estate planning and administration; medical, legal, and professional malpractice law; real estate law; education law; government and municipal law; and entertainment and sports law. Since joining the firm, David has been responsible for handling a considerable amount of litigation matters involving many of WGM's more high-profile business and corporate clients, including Fortune 500 companies and many of Cincinnati’s most prominent corporations. David handles all types of business and commercial disputes, including breach of contract claims; non-compete, non-solicitation, and trade secret disputes; employment discrimination and harassment claims; and toxic mold claims. In addition to his business-centered litigation and trial work, David also practices in an outside corporate counsel capacity, advising Cincinnati-area public entities, private companies, and individuals on a wide range of business, corporate, and employment law matters. David also commits a substantial portion his law practice to representing both plaintiffs and defendants in all areas of personal injury and wrongful death litigation. David has litigated hundreds of personal injury cases within state and federal trial courts, as well as state appellate courts. He has successfully represented national insurance companies and their insureds throughout the litigation process from start to finish, including negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, trials, and appeals. David's personal injury and wrongful death litigation practice often involves complex accident and injury cases concerning severe and debilitating traumatic physical and mental injuries and other complicated and intricate medical issues. Prior to joining WGM, David served as a law clerk for the Solicitor of the City of Cincinnati, the City's top attorney. During that time, David obtained substantial experience in the areas of employment and labor law, general and corporate counseling, civil rights and discrimination litigation, and government and municipal law. As a law clerk, David sharpened and litigated numerous cases on behalf of the City of Cincinnati involving employment and labor law and civil rights claims, including matters pertaining to hiring and firing, wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, and police misconduct. David obtained the unique experience enjoyed by very few law clerks when he was called upon to play a prominent role in a noteworthy employment discrimination trial involving the City of Cincinnati and several of its employees that was tried before a jury in the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas. David also counseled and advised City Councilmembers and many other top-ranking City officials on a broad assortment of federal, state, and municipal matters, including the establishment and implementation of effective employment policies and procedures, legal and regulatory compliance, and legal risk mitigation. During his time at City Hall, David was also responsible for drafting a wide range of contracts and other legal agreements on behalf of the City. David has strong roots and ties to the Queen City, the place he has proudly called home since his childhood years. David attended Archbishop Moeller High School, where he was a Mizuno All-Ohio selection in baseball his senior year and a key component of the school's 2004 Ohio Division I state championship baseball team. After Moeller, David attended the University of Cincinnati on a baseball scholarship, where he graduated cum laude with a B.B.A. in finance and international business. As a varsity athlete at UC, David received multiple academic honors and accolades, including the Topcat Scholar Award (the university's highest academic distinction awarded to varsity student-athletes), as well as the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. David attended law school at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, ranked in the top ten nationally among all public law schools, on a full-tuition, merit-based academic scholarship. Today, he remains heavily involved in the Cincinnati community. David serves as a coach for the Warren County Copperheads, a Cincinnati-area select baseball team. In addition, David works closely with Starfire Council, a local non-profit organization that helps individuals with disabilities build and develop the skills and experiences that will allow them to lead fully independent lives as adults.
