When is the best time of year to get roof work done?

This might depend on where you live but the weather conditions necessary for a roofing job are the same: the ideal time is when the weather is somewhere in the mid to upper 40s and you don't have a high chance of precipitation. This makes fall in most areas of the country the ideal time to have someone up on your roof doing inspections and installations. However, if you have more immediate roofing needs (such as a leak) you'll want a roofer up there as soon as the weather permits it.

Late summer and early fall can be the busiest time of year for roofers so don't wait to call if you find you're in need of roofing repairs, replacements, or you want to get a whole new roof on your home.

Roofs take a huge beating throughout the seasons: high winds, heavy rain, heavy snow, damaging hail, heat from the sun, and the traffic of wildlife. This means that once a year is the minimum you should be having your roof inspected for damage and repair needs. If you've had a big storm, you'll want to check it after that as well. You never want to wait for a roofing emergency before you call a roofer to come take a look. Leaks can grow fast, damage can become irreparable, and your roof can even become dangerous if you let issues go for too long.

When inspecting a roof you should have these items in mind:

  • Gutters: these will fill with debris over the seasons which can damage them or make it difficult for them to do their job of funnelling water. They can also be damaged by ice buildup and animal nests.
  • Flashings: the metal edgings of your roof can be points of weakness that result in leaks or poor stability if they're left unchecked and become damaged.
  • Droops: any part of your roof that looks like it's sagging is a serious problem and could result in serious damage or even danger if it's not handled immediately.

Roofers can be called for both emergency and routine visits. Roofing emergencies include leaks and structural damage, oftentimes after a storm. Routine calls to roofers involve installation on new constructions, replacing broken shingles or flashing, repairing any damaged portion of the roof, or even installing completely new roof if it's time for you to get a new one. They can also inspect your roof with an expert's eye if you're due for an inspection or suspect an issue.
