• Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology? I have a family history of colon cancer and colon polyps and as a gastroenterologist I am able to prevent colon cancer on a daily basis. Additionally, while GI diseases are extremely common, each patient’s symptoms and treatment course are individualized; working with patients to find a successful treatment plan is extremely rewarding. Do you have a specialty of interest within GI? As a female gastroenterologist I have am particularly aware and accustom to treating women with gastrointestinal diseases. I also treat general hepatology conditions such as chronic viral hepatitis, Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC), and steatohepatitis (“fatty liver disease”). Where did you study? Undergraduate: Baylor University, Medical School: University of Texas Medical Branch, Internal Medicine Residency and training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology: Baylor University Medical Center. What certifications do you hold? Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Hepatology. What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time? Life is busy with my husband and three small children. We enjoy traveling (when possible), outdoor sports and spending time with our family and friends in the area. Do you have any special honors or recognitions in your medical career that you would like to share? Honor society (AOA) in my medical school class.
