About Us

  • About Vein Institute The goal of the doctors, surgeons, and physicians at Vein Institute of Connecticut is to provide high-quality care to men and women suffering from venous disease in Fairfield, Newtown, Westport, and Shelton, Connecticut, and throughout Fairfield County. Board-certified family practice physician, Alex Afshar, MD, leads the team at the Vein Institute of Connecticut, and offers a warm, welcoming, and relaxing environment at all four locations. Dr. Afshar and the team work with both men and women to diagnose, treat, and eliminate the pain and embarrassment caused by varicose and spider veins.  At the Vein Institute of Connecticut, the team offers innovative, service-based, and top-of-the-line quality care performed in a boutique office setting. The team is passionate about treating vein disease using minimally invasive treatments that allow patients to return to their favorite activities right away.  Since establishing the Newtown office in 2008, the Vein Institute of Connecticut has expanded with three other offices, and a fifth location on the way. The team works to provide patients with the most advanced, out-patient, office-based procedures including ambulatory phlebectomy, endovenous laser ablation, treatment for facial veins, hand veins, and hemorrhoids, as well as radiofrequency ablation, sclerotherapy, and treatment of restless leg syndrome (RLS), and spider veins. Additionally, the team offers facial cosmetics such as Botox® and JUVEDERM®. They also offer minimally invasive treatments for varicose veins, including Varithena®, Venaseal®, and VNUS®. The team at the Vein Institute of Connecticut never makes treatment recommendations without pinpointing the underlying cause of their patients’ symptoms first. Each provider works one-on-one with their patients to explain their diagnosis, treatment options, and costs, ensuring everyone knows enough to make the right treatment decision for their lifestyle and budget.  If you’re living with venous disease, partner with the team at Vein Institute of Connecticut.
